The Natural History Museum of Starling City was a nice place to visit during opening hours, but an even nicer place once the doors closed. The building was filled with all kinds of information and valuables dating back thousands of years. For a woman like Barbara Minerva it was a gold mine. She spent the majority of her life touring the world collecting all kinds of artifacts from known and lost cultures. Some of which she sold to museums and private collectors while the others she kept for herself. After returning from the jungles of Africa she mostly did the collecting for her personal enjoyment which was why tonight she was at the NHM. Her target was a very rare gem dating all the back to the Mayan period. The museum curator had come across it only three days ago. Now it was going to be hers. Barbara, dressed in her Cheetah persona, climbed off her motorcycle about three buildings down from the museum. She made sure to park it out of sight.

There were two guards working the night shift, easy pickings. One of them was on the outside walking the perimeter while the other was inside probably sleeping at the monitor station. Barbara moved through the night as fast and silently as the cheetah until she came upon her destination. The first guard was already in her sights. The only thing he was armed with was a flashlight and a taser gun. She smiled as she took off running. Within seconds she was on top of the man digging her steel claws into his chest. As he screamed out she swiped across his neck opening his throat. The guards were easy enough to deal with; it was the security system that she had to worry most about. Having studied the building prior she knew that the power junction was stationed on the roof of the building. Barbara pulled out the climbing spikes from the pack on her back and slipped them around her hands and bare feet. The rough surface of the museum offered the perfect amount of traction for her to scale.

Before long she was on top with the power junction in her sights. She used her knife to pry open the door then once inside she rammed it straight into the system. There was a power flux right before all of the lights went off along with the security in place. Now all she had to do was slip inside, snatch up the gem, and then get out before the cops arrived. This was like taking candy from a baby.

Kate is still getting used to this new city, and it being her second night, she ventured from the seedier part of town and found herself looking over the museum. As Kate Kane, she has kept a low profile, not wanting anyone to connect her Vigilance persona to Kate Kane. She has rented out an entire building down in the Glades, an old business building that at one time housed several small business, basically saving it from imminent demolition.

Her first night went well, she killed a murderer trying to steal jewels so in her mind, justice was served. Justice was indeed her mistress and Vigilance did her bidding. She believed fully in an eye for an eye and a life for a life and there was no negotiations, no mercy.

None.

A sudden movement over at the museum caught Kate's eye as she perched herself atop a building across the street as she was dressed in all black, with the exception of her red mask that covered her entire head, yet left her mouth and chin exposed. Her armor was a medium thickness which allowed for stealth and agile movement as she leaped down from the roof and moved with a quickness across the street.

The perp had already went inside as Vigilance checked on the condition of the outside guard and a lipsticked frown made its appearance as Vigilance knew that once again, her mistress Justice would need her vengeance.

She moved into the building and that's when the lights went out.

It figures. She was waiting on word back from some military contacts about acquiring some night vision goggles, but she didn't have them yet. She squinted her eyes and moved slowly inside the building, trying to determine just what's so valuable in here that it was worth taking.

Barbara dropped a rope down into the museum through the now open skylight. It only took a couple of seconds for her to descend the rope and drop to the floor below that would have been buzzing with lasers had she not taken care of the security system. The woman was sure that after tonight, the museum would up its security measures to make sure that another theft could occur so easily. That was fine by Barbara. What she desired would be long gone by then. With the stealth of the cat whose name she wore, she moved through the building with purpose. The halls were lined with countless items that held value to someone somewhere, but none to her. Her mind was focused on the Mayan gem. Selling it would bring her a very sizable fortune to add to her already lofty wealth. One could never have too much money is what she believed. Her entire life she had known what it was like to possess riches even when she was living in the jungles of Africa.

As she moved along sticking to shadows to avoid cameras, she heard the heavy footsteps of the other guard on duty. They were sluggish which meant that he was a heavy set fellow likely not fit for active engagement. That she would use to her advantage. Barbara moved through the museum, keeping low and steady. The guard began to whistle a tune from an old television show long gone. It was a foolish thing to do even though he was not aware of such. Barbara waited. Soon enough, the man was within her grasp. With a primal roar, she leapt from the darkness, claws bared, and latched onto his back. She then sunk the deadly weapons into the soft spots between his neck and shoulders. He cried out in pain and tried to fight her off. The man managed to slam her into the wall behind him which caused her to loosen grip.

He pulled free the taser from his belt and turned to use it against her, but was meant with empty sight. From behind, Barbara wrapped her hands around his neck then twisted in opposite directions. The loud crunch that followed signified his death before body hit the ground. She licked the blood from the tip of a metal claw. Many had fallen victim to her deadly skills and many more that would try to stop her would follow in the future. The woman moved on to the exhibit that held her precious prize.

"Well, this sucks rocks," Vigilance mutters to herself as she tries to let her eyes get adjusted to the darkness. But slowly things start coming into focus and she moves through the museum carefully. She would call it in to the authorities, except she's certain that this particular thief is merciless and the last thing she wants is more bloodshed, so she'll have to handle this on her own.

She sticks close to the walls, not wanting to be seen right away. It's always better to see before being seen in a situation like this. So Vigilance is hoping that she'll find the thief/murderer before he or she finds Vigilance. It's one of the downfalls of being in a new city. You don't quite know all the players just yet, so she's walking into the unknown here.

In Gotham, it could be one of only a few that could pull something like this, but Starling City is a different animal with different predators.

She rounded the corner and takes a peek to see if she sees anything. She can hear something, but she's trying to determine in this acoustically challenged building just where it's coming from. It's then that she sees the body.

Another guard.

She makes a quick decision to check out the guard and see if there's something she can figure out about who's in here. She sees the mark on his neck, but that's not what killed him. She can tell his neck is broken. So, whoever it is, they are either strong or quick. She could probably tell more if she had the time, but she really needs to stop whoever this is before they kill someone else.

Justice is going to require a life for a life here and Vigilance is ready to take that life.

As she rounded the corner, Barbara came face to face with the desired object. ”There it is,” she said. The gem was red in color like the blood of so many enemies she had spilled. She had gems, but none that held same worth and significance as this one. It was a part of history, of a culture long past and all but forgotten. She needed to touch it, to hold it in her grasp. The gem would belong to her and her alone. No one else would be able to lay eyes upon it again. At first Barbara was going to sell it, but seeing it up close had changed the woman’s mind. It was kept safe behind a glass case that, upon further inspection, was pressure sensitive. If she were to lift the glass up the trap would spring and the alarms would go off. Luckily she did not have to do that. Barbara placed a finger tip against the front panel then began to drag it across in a circular fashion. The strong and sharp claw cut clean through the glass. Once a pattern large enough was cut, she pushd in the piece of glass and grabbed the gem.

It was heavier than it appeared. The feeling of the ridges was a marvelous sensation in her hand. ”At last you are mine.” She kissed the gem before slipping it into the pack she brought along. Now it was time to make a quick escape before anyone could become wise to her actions. The only guards on duty tonight were already dead, but the cameras were still an issue. There had been no way for her to avoid the one that was staring directly at the case. At least her face was obscured by the mask she wore. As she began to make way toward an exit, she paused. Hunter mode kicked in. She felt like there was another in the building with her nearby. That was impossible unless she missed a guard somehow? Barbara was sure that she checked the schedule correctly. Her bare footfalls were slowed as she walked with caution. Whoever was with her had made a terrible mistake.

The dark museum is not so dark anymore as Kate's eyes were slowly getting used to the darkness and her confidence grew. She wished she knew what was in this museum to know what it was that was worth killing and stealing for. She's still in the dark about alot of what goes on in this city still, but hopefully in time that will change and she'll have an advantage for once in her life here.

She realized that she's going to have to do a little more research before she goes out prowling at night.

She rounds the corner and something tingles her spine. She stops suddenly and just barely breathes as she listens for a sound, something that would indicate that her instinct is correct and someone is close. She could just leap out and try and startle them, but they might have a gun. Her armor will only protect her so much.

Plus, she's not certain how many there might be. It's a little quiet for more than one, but still if they are pros, this will be easy for them and Vigilance will be an obstacle to be handled.

Vigilance doesn't particularly care to be handled.

She decides to use the whacky acoustics of this place to her advantage and turns to face away from where she feels the intruder(s) are at and yells very loudly, "How about you put whatever it is you took back and we will have a little chat, hm?"

She knows the chances of that happening are slim to none, but she's going to have to go on the offensive at some point here and take control of the situation. Justice will now allows those deaths to go unpunished, and to be honest she could care less about whatever valuables might be in here. It's the killing that has to be dealt with.

She didn’t get far before a voice called out, its sound echoing off the walls of the museum. Barbara looked around for a second as she tried to pinpoint the exact location of the offender. It was a woman, one that no doubt thought herself a hero. How exactly did she get into the building? Had the woman entered the same way that she had while she was off retrieving the gem? The specifics didn’t really matter right now, but what did matter was that Barbara needed to get out before the person got the chance to try and stop her. She did not say anything in response to her command to put down the gem. There was nothing short of God himself that would make her drop her prize. Even then she had her mighty husband Urzkatarga looking over her. No harm or misfortune would befall her on this night.

She offered no response to the woman, only movement. Her feet were silent as she moved along toward the source having identified where the woman was hiding. Those years spent living in the jungles had honed her already impressive tracking skills. Everything that she ate for those six years had to be hunted down and killed by her hands. She was damn good at what she did. Barbara could move silently through a crowd without being noticed. In the darkness she was all but invisible. As she neared closer, she though about how she could react to the other woman. She could outright attack her and get it over with quickly. Or she could stick to the shadows and strike at the perfect opportunity. There was also the option to just avoid confrontation altogether which was honestly the smartest move.

Grinning, Barbara sprang from the darkness like a lightning bolt, bypassing the masked woman with a swing of her claws. The attack was meant to throw her off more than actually injury her. Barbara continued on a mad dash for the exit.

There was no reply to statement.

Perhaps that was a tactical error on Vigilance's part. She was certain with the echo of this museum, the soundwaves would throw off whoever was here, however it got thickly quiet once again and that's how Vigilance figured that she had made an error.

She stayed well within her corner, hiding and waiting to see what the culprit or culprits would do. As the silence lingered on, Kate knew there had to be only one perp in this museum and her hypothesis would turn out to be true as she turns the corner and was met with flailing claws.

She lifted her arms up to block, but felt the razor like objects digging into her armow. They didn't quite reach her skin, but if that had been her face, it would not have been a pretty sight. As the thief began to run by her, Vigilance had fallen backwards and she scrambled to her feet and bolted after him.

Vigilance did not get a good look at the thief, but it almost felt like it was a woman, though she was quicker and stronger than most women Kate knew. It was at this point that Vigilance hoped that her Army training would benefit her as she began to sprint after the murderer, running as fast as she possibly could. She needed to stop her in the museum because once they got outside, almost anything could happen and Vigilance didn't want any other innocents injured or killed during this chase.

Kane had been practicing running in this suit, but with her adrenaline pumping from this encounter she found herself moving faster than she had anticipated, but she's also certain she's going to be spent much sooner than she expected. She only hoped it could be enough to catch that damn thief.

The woman had decided to give chase, something that she was going to regret. Barbara had not been looking for a fight on this night, but that did not mean she wouldn’t give one. Her main goal was to get out of the museum before the security company sent police officers to apprehend her. In order to do that though, she was going to have to take out the woman that was on her heels. She was wearing a thick, black suit unlike any she had seen before. Her claws would have only a little bit of difficulty piercing through to get at the soft flesh beneath. That did not matter since her neck was exposed, and that was all she needed to land a fatal blow. Barbara loved going straight for the throat for it was a guaranteed kill. Sometimes she sliced right through and other times she nicked just enough to have them bleed out over time. It was a painful way to go, but one that she enjoyed.

As she nearly made it to the rope that dangled from the skylight entrance, Barbara stopped and spun around to face her opponent. ”I don’t know who you think you are, you little twat. You should have just stayed home instead of playing dress up like some vigilante fool.” Even though she had yet to encounter one, Barbara was already tired of all the vigilantes that Starling City seemed to attract. With so many masked “heroes” running around, people like her would have a difficult time doing their jobs. Case in point: right now. ”I’ll give you one chance to forget this ever happened. Otherwise I’m going to have to take off your head.” She raised her claws, the moonlight catching them just right. ”The decision is yours.”

Part of her was hoping that she would try to stop her because Barbara wanted to spill more blood tonight.

Why Vigilance was surprised that the thief was a woman, she'll never be able to tell you. It did take her off guard for just a moment as she found herself face to face with the intruder. However, there was something about this woman that kept Kate's guard up as she came to a halt in front of her. She could see the sharp claws and knew they were dangerous and that she'd have to do whatever she could to protect herself.

The suit she wore could take a few swipes, but she knows she has vulnerable places such as her neck. She would have to take a couple of shots to the suit, but will have to do whatever she could to protect her neck. Her chin and mouth are exposed and the bright red lipstick she wears curled up into a smirk. "How about if I give you one chance to drop what you have taken and surrender and I won't have you carried out of here in a body bag." The fact is that Justice cries out for the blood of this murderer, but there are times when a compromise might be in order.

"Or, you can try your best. You killed. Justice requires blood for blood, so if you don't surrender then it's time for you to die for vengeance on behalf of those you have killed." The smirk is gone now as she is deadly serious about these words. She will kill. She doesn't have the 'morals' of those others who think killing is wrong. Justice always believes in an eye for an eye and a life for a life. The thief here took two lives here today and she will not take a third. Vigilance will see to it.

"Your choice. Surrender or die."

It was true that Barbara knew nothing about this woman other than the fact that she was a vigilante. No one that wore a mask and paraded themselves around the city, picking at criminals was without some level of skill. She could be a master of several martial arts or good at throwing projectiles. There were a lot of things that this woman could be skilled at, but the same went for Barbara. Even though she did not have the traditional combat training, the kind that she did receive was more than efficient. Any many ways it was far deadlier than any studio martial art. The woman before her gave a counter arrangement, one that hinted that she was not above killing instead of handing criminals over to the law. Of course it could have just been big girl talk to persuade her otherwise. Either way, Barbara did not care. She was not about to part ways with the gem no matter what. If this woman wanted to tangle, then fine.

”Justice and vengeance are two different concepts, love. You’ve been reading too many of these western crime novels. Or should I say watching too much tv.” She was all too familiar with the concept of vengeance. When she had the opportunity to kill those that had brought her harm she took it without hesitation. Justice would be placing her in a court of law, but neither of them wanted that, Barbara most certainly. She shook her head. ”Damn cowboys, the whole lot of ya.” It was a trait that America was infamous for around the globe. Barbara let out something that sounded like a roar before she charged forward. Once she was in range she unleashed a flurry of claw swipes aimed for her torso and face at varying locations. If she could damage the suit enough she would be able to get to the flesh beneath. It was a damn good thing that her claws were strong and incredibly sharp.

Chin and lips are all that can be seen underneath the blood red and black mask worn by the vigilante, as those lips turn up into a smirk at the comment of the thief. "You're sadly mistaken, I'm afraid. Vengeance is personal, but Justice is all business. Justice will settle for no less tonight then your death, and if by chance you get by me, you may as well look over your shoulder for the rest of your days because one day I will be there to bury you." When the words were spoken, she believed them one hundred percent.

Vigilance braced herself when the kitten launched herself towards the 'hero' and she lifted her arms up to block her neck in an 'x' shape, crossing them in front of her and while the claws do their damage to the armor, Kate can feel the blades embed themselves into it and then tug against her arms when pulled free yet it does its job and her flesh doesn't feel so much as a blade from the killer.

"But, she's good. Damn good," thought Kate to herself as she took three slow steps backwards until she feels her heel against a wall behind her and she knows she's going to have to get some distance from the thief and braced that foot against the wall, she pushed forward, springboarding off the wall and attempting a kick to the midsection, followed by a roundhouse aimed towards the head.

This. This is what Kate has been training for since the day she started. This feline was a challenge to her and perhaps there's a little fear mixed into the adrenaline that begins to coarse through the hero's veins, but it's a good type of fear, the kind that ensures you aren't too careless.

Just a little careless, but not too much so.

She needed to try and get more offense in to protect herself from the razor claws. Her armor can only take so much.

"Prepare to die, villain!" she screamed as she attempts a flurry of strikes with the palm of her hand, aimed primarily towards the woman's heart.

The woman’s words were hollow in the ears of Barbara. She never had to worry about looking over her shoulder because she was under the protection of the greatest god to ever exist who just so happened to be her husband. There was nothing in the realm of man that she feared most certainly not some woman playing dress up. Plus there was the matter that Barbara’s identity was concealed behind a mask. There were plenty of women in Starling City with red hair so she did not have to be bothered with trying to conceal hers. Her claws made contact with the battle suit over and over, but never succeeding in piercing skin, not yet at least. If she had all night for this then she would not fret, but she didn’t. Soon enough the police were going to arrive on the scene and Barbara needed to be long gone before then. Playing with this vigilante was a hindrance. Part of her was now wishing she had brought along a gun. Wait…

Her attacks backed the opponent up against a wall which she then used to her advantage. The first counterattack landed, knocking Barbara back. When the second attack came she used her trained reflexes and flexibility to bend beneath the leg while simultaneously dragging a claw against the back of her thigh. The armor looked to be somewhat weaker there than on the torso. She cocked her head when the woman screamed for her death. It was rather amusing to say the least. She sounded young, and youth was usually accompanied by brash behavior and foolish mistakes. When she came at her with a flurry of attacks, Barbara backed away while redirecting as many blows as she could. Every now and again a palm would slip through her defense. The last strike she avoided altogether and countered with a leg sweep. Whether her opponent was hit by the maneuver or not did not matter because soon as it was done Barbara ran away.

There would be no time to scale the rope that she had used to enter the building. Besides that would have been dangerous since the woman would have been on her heels. Instead she headed for the front entrance.

Hollow to one, but not to the other whose every word was spoken with true conviction. However, the slice to the thigh caused her to curse in a very unladylike fashion. Once military, always military, right? The word exploded from her lips and she can feel the blood at the back of her leg. She just didn't have time to access the damage just yet. She only hoped it's not an artery.

Everything she's trained for, the years crossing one country after another, learning from the best martial artists, but still she felt that something was off. She missed something. It was like one key ingredient missing from a recipe that would make it world class. She can't quite piece it together though. It will be something that messed with her mind for days to come.

She doesn't slow, however as she can feel that every once in awhile, she's connecting with her foe, but it doesn't seem like it's enough to weaken her. Or perhaps she over judged as suddenly the thief dropped down and kicked her legs out from under her and Vigilance takes a couple of steps back before falling back against the wall, momentarily stunned as the criminal flees the scene.

There was a moments hesitation when she saw her consider the rope, then suddenly dodge for the front entrance. Kate pushes herself back upright, a little worse for wear after that one and shakes the cobwebs loose before she bolts after the kitten. This was the toughest foe she's faced. No doubt. If she failed to kill this cowardess creature, this would be the first time she actually failed.

She's not entirely certain how she will deal with that, so she doesn't dwell on it as she pushed off the wall and sprinted after the thief, running as fast as she possibly could. She hoped that it's fast enough.

In hindsight bringing along a firearm would have been a smart idea considering the fact that Starling City was watched over by the green archer. Running into him was always a possibility with every job that she pulled in the city, but never had she expected to cross paths with another vigilante. Ever since that man first showed up it seemed like more elements of the underworld were making their presence known. If she had a gun on her she could end the pursuit right now. One clean shot to the center of the vigilante’s forehead would do the trick nicely, but a gun she did not have. And the guards only had flashlights and tasers on them. Barbara usually did not use firearms since her claws and knife tended to be all that she needed to get pass any security. The thick armor of her opponent made it hard to get in a clean swipe unfortunately. Well it was unfortunate for Barbara, but quite fortunate for the vigilante.

She looked over her shoulder and saw her pursuer still giving chase. Once she reached the front entrance, Barbara picked up one of the metal trash bins that were off to the side. Since at this time of night the doors were locked, she had to improvise an exit. The woman yelled as she smashed the trash bin into one of the glass doors once then twice causing it to crack. She then took a step back before flinging it into the cracked glass, shattering it on impact. Had she not already taken care of the power, the alarms would have started ringing undoubtedly. Barbara turned pulled her knife from its holster as she turned to face the vigilante. ”Think you can keep me from exiting? Come on then, mate.”

Barbara was ready to plunge the knife deep into the side of her neck, maybe cut off a couple of fingers first just for the pleasure. She knew that she had to take care of the woman or risk being followed through the city.
